INTELLECTUS: the word "intellect" comes from the Latin "intus legere", which means "to read inside". It is not the intellectual capacity that everyone is more or less gifted with, but the ability to go beyond the external aspect of reality, to scrutinize its depths, to its complete understanding. The person who has the gift of intellect does not give weight to appearances, to gossip, to banalities: instead, he seeks the truth in people and in words, which he listens to and who says. This virtue involves both the mind and the heart: in ancient times, the seat of the intellect was not the brain but the heart, because the knowledge that is reached with the heart is deeper than the detached and aseptic knowledge of the mind.
